I have been a Columbus Resident since
the start of 1985. I am one of 10 siblings, altogether, and the
third of eight born to John Roebuck and the late Louise Roebuck. I
credit my “momma Lou” for my love of people, my sense of humor and
my singing ability, and I credit my “Adoptive Mom”…evangelist Edna
Neal for my spiritual foundation. She and my “Adoptive Dad” deacon
Willie Neal exposed me to gospel and classical music, and the arts.
My folks were avid “Radio” listeners, and mom even (unknowingly)
groomed me for a career in radio that recently hit the 30 year mark.
I began my radio career in my home state of West Virginia, and
through the years I’ve met many stars, legends, and dignitaries, but
it has been the honest everyday people that have touched my heart
the most. Although I am enjoying my time here with Smooth Jazz WJZA,
retirement is just a few exits down the road…at which time I’ll hang
up my headphones and devote my time and passion to the call and
cause of Ministry.

In
December 1934, the Doc slapped my behind, and I responded with the
time, temperature, call letters, and what was comin’ up in the
next set. Fast-forward 20 years later, and I start my professional
broadcasting career (behind the scenes).
5
years after that (1959—see?
math is a strong suit) I
land my
FIRST ON-AIR DJ-gig as a weekend rock-jock in
Columbus
.
Since
then, I’ve worked at a lot of stations, in a lot of formats, ALL
of which I've enjoyed. Rock, Pop, Folk, Adult-Contemporary, Country
& Western, Classical—and of course, my favorite,
hard-core, industrial-strength JAZZ!. “Oldies” stations
are now playing artists I introduced as “New-ies.”
Along
the way, I defended our country as a Corporal in the Army,
dabbled in TV and won 5 EMMY Awards for my on-air TV
performances as “Fritz The Nite Owl,”
helped Captain Marvel and Superman save the universe in the
Power of Shazam comic book, made a couple of nationally-released
movies, and assisted my wife
Pat in raising our 5 sons and spoiling our 10 granddaughters.
